Lifespan Religious Education at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Elkhart
2007 - 2008
At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Elkhart we take seriously our newly-adopted mission statement. The goal of our Lifespan Religious Education Program is to nurture individual and ethical growth recognizing that the hunger for learning is with us throughout our lives from the time we are born until the day we die. The offerings and curricula support the larger mission of our congregation to celebrate diversity and promote a just and sustainable world. Lifespan Religious Education is a cooperative effort at UUFE. We seek the involvement of the whole congregation whether it be in teaching, in leading a weekly activity for children and youth, or facilitating one of the adult enrichment offerings.
For Children and Youth
We celebrate our children and youth for the persons they are now as well as the people they will become. Whether learning about our faith—roots and identity, world religions, life's experiences, questions and mysteries, or how we can live out our faith in the world, we hold children in communities of safety, love, and justice where they are valued just as they are.

10:45 Sunday Activities for Children and Youth
Every Sunday after the children and youth leave the service, they engage in a special activity. It can be an art or craft, an exploration of the outdoors or even drumming. Needed are volunteers for this activity time. You may supply your activity or one will be supplied – your choice. Long-time teacher Lee Sones will be there to assist. Please sign up on the clipboard in the foyer.
10:45 Sunday Teen Groups
A new group has been added: the Young Teens are now meeting with advisor Larry Cherniak. The group has plans to work on projects, both art and social service, focused on animals. The older teens meet with Cameo Victor and also have a number of great projects and discussions planned.
For Adults
Adult religious education programs embody the transformational, self-directed learning that lies at the heart of Unitarian Universalism. Unitarian Universalism helps adults use their own personal stories to share their religious journeys; explore fundamental religious questions and theological concerns; build relationships with others; explore moral and ethical questions from a liberal religious perspective; and become familiar with the foundations of our liberal religion. We do this through workshops, discussion groups, and identity groups.
